If you are looking for an idyllic and stunning beach house for a group of friends or all the family to enjoy, your search stops here! First Staithe Field has a beautiful open plan living area with a wonderful light and airy feel and overlooks its extensive grounds to the north and beautiful formal walled gardens, including a croquet lawn, to the south.
As soon as you turn the key and walk into the large hallway you’ll be impressed! With a large open plan living space and an impressive staircase leading off, there is plenty of space for socialising.
On the ground floor you’ll discover a delightful kitchen/dining area with vaulted ceiling and white washed roof beams, with a large wall of windows and French doors to the rear making the room light and bright all year round. With the dining table located overlooking the grounds and a sit-up area to the kitchen island, this is a great place for friends and family to gather. Through the French doors you’ll find a beautiful terraced area where you can dine alfresco overlooking the marsh. A stone fireplace with open fire gives this area a cosy ambiance during the winter months.
The large sitting room has plenty of seating for you to relax on an evening and a fabulous wood burner where you can warm your toes in the winter. With French doors onto the south-facing walled garden, which is chock-ful-of-perennials and roses during the summer, this is a beautiful room to enjoy throughout the year. To the side of the property you’ll find the small walled croquet lawn.
The whole house has a wonderful coastal feel which ensures you feel relaxed from the moment you arrive.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Now boasting five beautifully-appointed bedrooms with sumptuous linens and all with views over the grounds and marsh, this property has the wow factor in bucket-loads.
Downstairs you’ll find a four poster double bed and a double bedroom which are served by a family bathroom and wet room respectively, perfect for washing the sand from those sandy toes. At the end of the same hallway you’ll find the children’s bedroom with two sets of bunk beds and a good selection of toys which also has its own en-suite bathroom. All rooms have French doors onto the rear terrace so on a summer evening you can breathe in the salty sea air.
Upstairs on the first floor you’ll find the large master bedroom suite, tucked away from the other bedrooms. Featuring a Super-King bed and French doors that open onto a beautiful glass-fronted balcony overlooking the marsh and sea with fabulous views to Scolt Head Island, this is certainly the room your guests will be fighting over! On a warm evening fling open the doors and enjoy watching the sun go down or enjoy a spot of star gazing. The master suite is serviced by a large bathroom which again comes with unsurpassed marsh viewsand has a large bath and separate built-in shower with twin hand basins.
There is an additional twin bedroom on this floor with views to the east and to the north over the marsh.
Climb a further staircase to the second floor and you will find a wonderfully luxurious bathroom with feature roll-top slipper bath. This is a wonderful place to relax with a glass of wine and savour the fantastic views from the tub while having a long soak.
There is a cloakroom on the ground floor too.
Outside
Spill-out from the kitchen and onto the terrace and you’ll discover the perfect spot for some alfresco dining. The grounds are extensive, there is a tree-lined path that leads you to this fabulous space. Complemented by a beautifully established south-facing formal garden with clipped box hedges, paved walkways and topiary, play a game of croquet on the enclosed east facing lawn or let the children run around to their hearts content in the large grounds which run down to the marsh.
The property features a natural Norfolk reed pond at the bottom of the garden and is fully fenced and enclosed to keep children and dogs in the garden and out of the pond. However care should be taken.
Walk-out of the private gate at the bottom of the grounds and you’ll find yourself on the Peddars Way coastal path. Turn left to walk to the sandy beach at Brancaster or right to the harbour where you will find the ever-popular Fish Shed selling local seafood and sandwiches and two fabulous pubs/restaurants; The White Horse which boasts some of the best alfresco dining and sunset views on the coast and the family-friendly Jolly Sailors which was recently named Family Pub of The Year. As properties go, you couldn’t ask for a more idyllic and spectacular location for a holiday in North Norfolk.

Barefoot relaxation
For the best seat in the house, grab a morning coffee and a good book, sit back and enjoy the tranquillity of coastal life from the your private terrace overlooking the grounds and marsh. Or pack-up a picnic and take a 20 minute walk along the boardwalk to the beach at Brancaster. As the summer sun fades, retire to the house and enjoy a cosy evening by the open fire or in front of the woodburner, digging out those favourite board games or watching a favourite movie to keep all the family entertained.
On an evening watch the sun gown down over the marsh and then gaze at the beautiful star-filled night skies and recall what a brilliant day you’ve all had!
There is boat and canoe hire in the village, so you can explore the creeks, although please remember that the tides move fast and care must be taken not to venture too far! However it is sometimes possible to paddle across the creek from the harbour to a small beach which is great fun.
For those wanting not to move and inch, then simply warm your face in the sunshine, breathe in the salty sea air and relax in the garden.
If you are truly searching for escapism, catch a boat to beautiful Scolt Head Island just across the marsh, where you can enjoy an idyllic day on this breathtaking island owned and managed by the National Trust. A nature reserve and haven for wildlife, you won’t find many places as beautiful as this.
The Royal West Norfolk Golf Course which attracts the royals and celebrity visitors alike is a 20 minute walk or five minute drive away.
There are is also a supermarket in the village where you can buy all the essentials including newspapers, a petrol station and some great shops including Fat Face, a local pottery, seasonal pop up shops and a caf? where you can also enjoy great breakfasts and fish and chips on an evening.
Don’t forget to take a mosey around the trendy village of Burnham Market too, just a few miles up the road, where you can find a wonderful fishmongers, deli’s and some fab food and restaurants. Of course, if you are all shopped out, then retreat to the garden and enjoy an early afternoon siesta, soaking up the sunshine.
Facilities
There is plenty of parking at the property for up to 8 cars. First Staithe Field is well equipped with an Aga, electric oven, with induction hob, dishwasher, microwave, American fridge/freezer with ice dispenser, integrated pantry and washing machine and tumble dryer which is housed in the wet room.
This beautiful home and its large gardens slope down to the marsh. Guests with children should be aware of the natural reed bed at the bottom of the grounds, although this is situated at the very end of the garden and is fenced. Please note that one room on the second floor will remain locked during the rental period.
The property is equipped with a travel cot, high chair and stairgate.
