Despite the benefit of its central location, the property offers enclosed garden with ample off-road parking making Western House the perfect hideaway in Norfolk for those wanting to be close to the hustle and bustle but still enjoy a private, quiet and relaxing location.
Lovingly brought back to life by its owners, Western House is a superb example of how you might blend authenticity with modern luxury in a fantastic location. Comfortably accommodating parties of up to five guests, you will find the perfect holiday experience awaits, whether it’s the height of the summer or the deepest mid-winter.
The house is secretively tucked away behind the houses that border the green, between the well-respected Hoste and the grand private residence at Westgate Hall. From the house you can easily explore the village and find out what is on offer, never being too far away from the many independent shops, restaurants, delicatessens and art galleries that the village is famed for.
Nearby coastal villages include Holkham, Burnham Overy Staithe, Brancaster and Brancaster Staithe where you will find some of the best beaches North Norfolk has to offer. Mile upon mile of fine sands can be experienced and enjoyed by all ages and interests, whether it be via binoculars, sun beds or walking shoes, there is something for everyone.
If you exhaust the options on your doorstep, you might also consider some lunches or evenings out at one of the many fabulous local eateries. Special mentions must go to The White Horse in Brancaster, The Duck in Stanhoe, Titchwell Manor, The Hero at Burnham Overy Staithe and The Victoria at Holkham.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Tucked away on the 1st and 2nd floors you will find three stylish bedrooms in which your guests can relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of village life. The bedrooms are serviced by the 1st floor master bathroom and the en suite shower of the 2nd floor double.
On the first floor you have the master bedroom offering king size bed and ample hanging space. Decorated in an understated style with plush soft furnishings, the room is a haven away from the stresses of modern life.
Bedroom two is also on the 1st floor and offers twin beds. The room is light and comfortable with good storage.
Bedroom three stretches across the length and breadth of the top floor and is characterised by the pitched ceilings with its many Velux windows. The double bedded room is also en suite with a shower and WC making it ideal for adults or older children that want to enjoy some space away from the group. *Please note, this room is not suitable for travel cots*.
The master bathroom is found on the same corridor as the master and twin bedrooms and is comprised of a bath with shower over with accompanying WC and hand basin.
Kitchen, Dining Area & Utility Room
A flowing marble top separates the well-appointed kitchen from the adjacent dining space, this area can further be opened up with the use of the doors that take you directly into the enclosed garden with its additional seating. The kitchen contains all of the necessary inventory and will allow groups to be catered for with ease.
Key facilities include induction hob, cooker, dishwasher and fridge with freezer drawer, with a microwave in the utility room. Please note that there is an additional fridge under the stairs, should you require more space.
The utility room houses a washer and has a downstairs WC.
The wooden beamed lounge is a great place to relax in front of the TV after a long day exploring the treasures of North Norfolk. A super comfy corner sofa awaits with a wood burner across the room providing warmth and atmosphere in the winter. What can be better than curling up in front of the fire.
The room also has doors that open up to the garden, perfect for letting the outside in!
Somewhat unexpectedly and despite its central location, Western House has the most fantastic garden! Enclosed by double oak gates and aged chalk and flint walls, the space is a great sanctuary away from the busy green. Even on the busiest days in Burnham, you will find a quiet, private space awaits your return.
Planting in this area is mainly driven by verbena with shrub and climbing roses, giving a wonderfully fragrant sun trap. The owners have provided ample outside seating, table and parasol and this may well become the most popular spot in the property. Ideal for BBQ’s.
The property has secure off-road parking for up to four cars. Western House welcomes dogs by prior arrangement.
The seven Burnhams by the sea consist of Market, Thorpe, Norton, Deepdale, Overy Staithe, Overy Town and Westgate, each with its own charm and history.
The Georgian town of Burnham Market is the largest of the seven, sometimes referred to as ‘Chelsea-on-sea’ because of its famous retailers and hostelries. Tailors, local arts and crafts, delicatessens and other specialists can be found around the green in the centre of the village and are well worth a visit!
For good food you are able to leave the car behind and stroll over to the Hoste or 20 North Street, both of which are less than 5 minutes away. There is also Socius, which is a brand new unique restaurant in the village and is well worth a visit – if you can get in!
The aspiring chefs amongst you will also be spoilt as all tastes are catered for around the green. Here you will find Arthur Howell Butchers, Gurneys Fish Shop, Humble Pie Delicatessen, The Tuscan Farm Shop and fresh fruit and vegetables at Uttings.
Nearby Brancaster also offers one of the UK’s most challenging links courses, the Royal West Norfolk. The adjacent beach features spectacular wildlife including seals, waders, skylarks and the odd passing hobby. For those looking to explore the surrounding seas and creaks, boats and canoes can be hired from Brancaster Staithe harbour. For the uninitiated, why not begin your sailing with some expert training with the local experts.
