Sustainability
Barefoot Retreats is committed to minimising its environmental impact, promoting social responsibility, and supporting the local community through sustainable practices.
Your stay with Barefoot:
- Any communication from the Barefoot team will be paperless, from confirmations and access and directions to information from our concierge team, you’ll receive this via e-mail.
- We have forged strong relationships with local suppliers and producers to create a bespoke Norfolk welcome hamper which is placed into all Barefoot properties for arrival. This hamper is packed with local goodies including apple juice, a homemade crusty loaf, handmade biscuits, crisps, milk, and a bottle of fizz. Please ensure you leave the glass milk bottles so we can return these to the milkman after your departure.
- When you arrive at your property you will find a house book with useful details about your property, facilities and recommendations for the location.
- Enjoy your own Barefoot branded recycle hessian shoulder bag, use this when you are out and about purchasing from our wonderful local shops.
- You’ll find a collection of bespoke vouchers for some of our favourite local food venues and attractions, along with a selection of local magazines packed with articles and information on the area.
- Please separate your recyclables and use the specific bins provided. Waste collection information for your property can be found in your house book.
- There’s an energy card in your welcome pack encouraging guests to be mindful during their stays and we ask that you do not leave lights or heating on unnecessarily.
- Many of our properties have EV charging points, you can find out if a property has this within the property listing or get in touch with the team for help.
- North Norfolk is recognised as an Area of Outstanding Beauty and we encourage our guests to enjoy explore the area, whether walking, cycling or using the local coast hopper bus to get around. You can find recommendations and suggestions for what to do for all ages within our website journal here.
Behind the scenes:
- Waste paper is shredded and used for staff’s chicken coops.
- Lost property found in houses is kept for 3 months and if it is not claimed then it gets donated to charities within the area.
- Sundry items are purchased in bulk allowing us to re-fill items as much as possible and reducing plastic to landfill.
- Waste is separated and recycled wherever possible.
- Packaging from deliveries is re-used.
- We provide Noble Isle toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand soap in each bathroom) – https://www.nobleisle.com/. These are made in the UK using sustainable ingredients and natural extracts, are paraben, vegan, and cruelty free, and use recyclable packaging. We re-fill the hand soaps and are currently looking into joining their Clean Conscience recycling scheme.
