Knotting Hill Farmhouse by Barefoot Retreats

The Great Reset at Knotting Hill Farmhouse

Looking for a bolthole that’s perfect for rebooting mind, body and soul? From its charming accommodation and idyllic location to the state-of-the-art facilities, here’s why Knotting Hill Farmhouse in Cley-next-the-Sea is North Norfolk’s ultimate yoga, wellness and fitness retreat venue

It’s all about the space

From the moment you set foot in Knotting Hill Farmhouse, you’ll feel your muscles unknotting – literally. This is a luxury retreat venue that guarantees peace of mind. The private rural haven is on the outskirts of the pretty village of Cley-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast, nestled within three acres of gardens and wild flower meadows. No detail has been left unturned in the design, from the wellness facilities to the all-ensuite accommodation for up to 18 people (there’s extra space for additional guests, too). The communal spaces are a lesson in relaxed indoor/outdoor living, whether you’re curling up in the cosy lounge with its open-hearth fire and sweeping countryside views or feasting in the dining room with its huge bi-fold doors. There’s no shortage of space, making Knotting Hill Farmhouse the perfect canvas to create a retreat experience that stands out from the crowd, one that guarantees serenity and tranquility.

Take it outside

Unwind at Knotting Hill Farmhouse, whatever the weather. There’s an outdoor covered terrace complete with a log burner and infrared heaters (guests will love its living sedum roof); in warmer months, you’ll want to be on the sun-drenched terrace. That said, the pièce de résistance is surely the heated sailcloth tent. Set in a fragrant wildflower meadow, it’s the ultimate in nature immersion with ample room inside for a spot of gong bathing or practicing your downward dog. The best bit? The tent comes fully equipped with yoga mats, cushions, blocks and straps, so no need to lug any equipment with you. There’s also a sauna at Knotting Hill Farmhouse that’s big enough for ten people and a wood-fired hot tub, plus a Scandinavian cold water five-seater plunge tub for that endorphin-releasing dip – plus changing rooms. The outdoor hot/cold water shower is made from a solid oak beam sourced from a refurbished French chateau. It’s all in the detail…

(En) suite dreams

While guests will love Knotting Hill Farmhouse’s alfresco facilities, there’s plenty to keep them happy inside too. The farmhouse has eight comfortable-luxe ensuite bedrooms (sleeping up to 18), each one individually designed by Russell Stage Studios. The rich colour palette and textural furnishings are deliciously cocooning. There’s ‘Blue Tit’, with its cobalt walls, juliet balcony and sea-facing views; ‘Woodcock’, a plum-and-wood bunk room that has doors opening onto the garden; and the Schöffel suite, designed in partnership with the country living brand – to name a few. Most rooms can be reconfigured and adapted to suit your needs, making them ideal for retreat-hosting.

Tastes good

Whether taking part in outdoor activities or indoor group sessions, guests will build up an appetite, and the amenities at Knotting Hill Farmhouse cater to every taste. The elegant teal kitchen is purposefully equipped with large groups in mind. We’re talking about an AGA, two dishwashers, two ovens, two fridge-freezers, a wine fridge, ice maker, Quooker tap, Nespresso machine… When the sun shines, head alfresco to the Swedish outdoor kitchen with its charcoal grill, Kamado BBQ, pizza oven, fridge and sink. There’s a tried and tested team of local chefs and caterers available from Barefoot’s concierge, who can help facilitate your culinary wishes, whether detox smoothies on the beach or nutritious plant-based meals onsite. Eat in the indoor dining room, with its handmade oval table and quirky canoe installation, or on the heated covered terrace, which allows 20 guests to dine outdoors year-round.

Location, location, location

It’s not just the state-of-the-art facilities and luxury accommodation that sets Knotting Hill Farmhouse apart as one of the finest yoga, wellness and fitness retreat venues in North Norfolk. The location is hard to beat too. It’s just a short stroll to the charming brick-and-flint village of Cley, with its smattering of independent businesses, historic church and 18th-century windmill. From here, you can hit the coastal path to the beach for invigorating sea swims and soaking up the wide open skies. Beyond Cley, ancient woodlands, heathland, marshes and coastline stretch in every direction – inviting you to take deep breaths and reconnect with the wilderness. And with a wellington boot collection at the Farmhouse, guests can stride out whatever the weather. One thing’s for certain, after a stay at Knotting Hill Farmhouse you’ll all go home feeling stronger in body and soul than you did on arrival. And who doesn’t want that?
