Discover Norfolk

Burnham Overy Staithe

Burnham Overy Staithe is a rarity. A place where every second of your day can be spent soaking up another doorstep adventure, which is what makes it the perfect destination for the wild at heart. Truly.

Local Features

With muddy saltmarshes to explore, towering sand dunes to climb, estuaries to sail, sunset paddleboarding sessions to enjoy and a labyrinthe of creakes that are perfect for wild swimming, Overy Staithe is where memories are made. Always has been and hopefully always will be.

And yet, each season brings its own magic, to the point where you hope the rain will lash against the windows of your luxury bolthole as you relax in a cosy armchair and gaze out of the windows toward Scolt Head Island, before taking refuge in The Hero; a laid-back yet lively pub with a roaring fire to warm your cockles and menu to please your taste buds.

The History of Burnham Overy Staithe

Steeped in nautical history, there’s every chance you’ll overhear one of the local storytellers share a fable that celebrates this place’s soul-stirring past. And what a past it is.

From a trading post during the Middle Ages to the training ground for Lord Horation Nelson, who learned how to row on the creakes of the River Burn, Burnham Overy Staithe has been around for donkey’s years, its network of creakes, cricks and channels forever changing with the tides.
