The village has a historic harbour, which is still used by local fishermen today, a great place to relax, sail, paddleboard or simply enjoy the views. There are two excellent pubs, the award winning White Horse and the fantastic Jolly Sailors both serving local and traditional food and drink.
Brancaster Staithe is surrounded by several nature reserves, including the Titchwell Marsh Reserve and the Holkham National Nature Reserve, both of which are popular with birdwatchers and nature lovers.
A Brief History of Brancaster Staithe
The history of this village dates back many centuries and is deeply intertwined with the history of the surrounding area. There is evidence of Roman settlement in the area and in medieval times, Brancaster Staithe was an important port for the local fishing industry. The village grew around the harbour, which was a hub of activity for the local fishing boats.
During the Victorian era, it became a popular holiday destination for wealthy families from London and other cities and in World War II, the area around the Staithe was used as a military training ground and the village itself was used as a base for the British Army.
Today, the village has a thriving community, with many local businesses and attractions, including pubs, restaurants, and shops.
