Introduction

This stunning grade 2 listed period building combines a beautiful home with a private and rural setting only a short stroll from the picture postcard village. Nestled above the coastal village of Snettisham, Norton House is enveloped by its spacious garden ready for you to escape the hustle and bustle of the everyday life. Gather the gang and be ready for a memory packed adventure by the sea.

Inside

The gothic inspired windows flood the house in natural light and give you a front row seat to the magical surrounding landscape bustling with fauna and flora.

Bring the outside in and fling open the French doors that dress two sides of the converted Carstone terrace cottages for epic summer parties and endless games of hide and seek. Scrabble and gin rummy on the terrace under the apple tree, dusk walks and BBQ suppers with a glass of something chilled.

Winter at Norton is just as good, a perfect festive retreat, think long windswept walks on the nearby beach followed by a pie and pint at the Rose & Crown pub. Head back to Norton to warm up with hot chocolates and movies by the wood burners as the delicious smell of your Sunday roast fills the air. Don’t miss the bar billiards for some friendly family competition, or if a good, tattered book and glass of Merlot is your thing go for a window seat watching the rain from the comfort of your snuggly spot.

Outside

Don’t forget to explore the picture gallery and video for a first-hand glimpse of Norton and it’s beautiful grounds, or read on for an over view…

Whatever the time of year, the garden at Norton House is a treasure trove of beauty. Spring is a feast for all the senses, blooming hellebore’s, bluebells and daffodils fill the flowerbeds and the buzz of queen bee’s (and other early risers) provides the perfect soundtrack to a luxury escape. Listen out for the pink-footed geese in April and October. The warmer weather brings further life to the garden and guests are welcome to use any of the fruit – apples are aplenty from the flowering trees. In the cooler months the frost covered grounds, and golden hues create a beautiful backdrop to wrapped up morning coffees on the terrace or dusk mulled wine as the children chase amber leaves across the grass.

For family groups the garden offers a diverse area where you can feel reassured that the nearest road is half a mile away down a private track. Children can play in the spacious garden (that’s nearly big enough for a decent game of cricket) without concern. So, relax in a sunny spot while the kids enjoy themselves!

There is a long patio running along the side of the house that is accessed from the large bi-fold doors in the dining room. Here you will find 3 distinct areas that seamlessly link together; an al fresco dining area with a table and chairs seating 10 guests and a gas BBQ, a more relaxed seating area with rattan sofas and further down you can access the area outside of the ground floor bedroom.

The garden does have stone walls and mature hedging with a wire fence but is not completely escape proof for the most determined canine escapologist, therefore it is recommended not to leave dogs unsupervised while they are in the main garden. However, the small doggy garden outside the utility room is fully fenced.

The property offers generous off-road parking for up to six cars, ideal for large groups.

Please do note, the property does have external CCTV for security purposes only.

Kitchen/Dining Room

The stunning open plan kitchen/dining room provides a fabulous space to gather everyone for a sociable meal together while making sure the chef doesn’t get left out! This area joins seamlessly to a stunning patio and outside entertaining space through bi-fold doors. The contemporary handmade kitchen is beautifully finished with granite worktops and is fully equipped with top of the range appliances including; a large fridge freezer with ice dispenser, a separate wine cooling fridge, dishwasher, large oven with gas hob, a separate double oven and grill, microwave and toaster. The large centre island has an additional sink with an instant boiling hot water tap and is serviced with 4 breakfast stools.

At the opposite end of the room, the dining area is filled with natural light from the above lantern roof and the large bi-fold doors along one side of the room, which can be opened onto the patio to connect the inside and outside spaces. The handmade natural oak dining table is an attractive centrepiece that comfortably seats up to 12 guests, and the large decorative antique dresser to the side of the table houses a TV.

Reception Rooms

On the ground floor you have the choice of three beautifully decorated reception areas; a second dining room, a main lounge and finally a separate TV/chill out room.

The second dining room is more formal and can capably host a sit-down meal for 10 guests, and you can imagine sitting there long into the evening, enjoying a little after dinner treat.

Adjacent to the dining room is the main lounge, this was once actually two rooms but is now a very generous space with lots of comfy seating. In addition, there is a fully restored vintage bar billiards table that is in perfect working condition. This is a fun addition to the house, beyond what you might ordinarily expect, great entertainment for all the family. The room also features a wood burner.

The last of the three rooms is the TV chill out room where a separate group can play games or relax in front of the 49inch curved Smart TV on the large leather corner sofa. This sofa also converts to a double bed should additional sleeping accommodation be required (Please note that there is an additional charge for the sofa bed to be made up, please enquire with the team should this be something you wish to use) This room also has a working wood burner.

Dogs are welcome to join you in this room and the kitchen/diner, but we respectfully request dogs are not allowed into bedrooms or the lounge/billiard room.

The utility room is an ideal doggy chill out/sleeping area, the coolest spot in the house during summer and boast’s its own fully fenced dog garden, ideal for night time leg stretching! The utility room also has a Belfast sink, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Norton House offers 5 bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor, and all are finessed to a luxury standard with tranquillity and comfort very much to the fore. The range of beds and rooms makes the property suitable for different types of group, regardless of age.

The ground floor bedroom features an attractive super king size bed, with a large wardrobe to match, a relaxed seating area with 2 comfy arm chairs and a table, which are well positioned to look out onto the patio and across the garden, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and a read of the paper! There is also a dressing table with a stool and mirror tucked away to create a private dressing area, a Netflix enabled Smart TV and a magnificent en suite bathroom. You can also open the French doors onto the patio where there is seating for 2 and connects to the other patio areas along the side of the house adjoining the kitchen/dining room.

The en suite bathroom is beautifully decorated with gothic style tiles to match the architecture of the house and features a large walk in shower area with a choice of rain effect or power shower options, a lavish, freestanding roll top bath, sink, WC and a heated towel rail.

There is also a separate shower room with WC on the ground floor.

The master bedroom is situated on the first floor and features a super king size bed, two lovely views, complete with window seats overlooking the front and side gardens. Ample hanging space is afforded to guests and the room also includes a Freeview TV.

As you enter the bedroom you do first go through a side room in which the owners have thoughtfully installed a permanent cot. For those of you with children under 2 years of age, this is a real plus. When in the main bedroom you are only a matter of steps from the side room, reducing the need for being on tip toes after bedtime.

The room also benefits from its own superb, modern en suite bathroom with a huge freestanding bath, walk-in shower, sink, WC and heated towel rail.

Bedroom 3 has comfy twin beds, which can be zip and linked to make a super king bed, with views over the front garden. Again, you are treated to unique styling, period features and plenty of hanging space.

Bedroom 4 offers a super king size bed, chest of drawers, decorative screen and features the attractive exposed brick work of the property. Why not relax in the window seat and read a good book while taking in the beautiful views across the front garden!

Bedroom 5 has a super king size bed and again overlooks the apple trees at the front of the property. This south facing aspect is great with a coffee in the morning! The room has been elegantly furnished with local artwork and includes a dressing table with drawers, a Freeview TV and a working wood burner, ideal for cuddling up to on winter nights.

There is a second contemporary family bathroom located next to bedroom 5 with a huge freestanding bath, walk-in shower, sink, WC and heated towel rail.

Staying at
Norton House

Quick guide to your location

The village of Snettisham is situated on the North Norfolk coast, just a few miles from the royal residence at Sandringham and boasts a superb RSPB reserve, award winning 15th century coaching inn and Snettisham Park Farm, a working farm offering fantastic family days out.

For those of you that are more attracted to warmer environments, there’s the Old Store, offering fantastic food both day and night and the bar at Snettisham Rose and Crown is an attractive option well worth consideration. This 14th century coaching inn has provided respite to weary travellers for nearly 700 years and in 2015 it was recognised as the UK Pub of the Year. Fantastic for families, couples and dog walkers, you can equally enjoy a fancy three course meal as you can a pint of Woodfordes in the enclosed garden while the children play in the pirate ship play area.

The royal estate at Sandringham is only a few miles inland and gives guests a chance to view the grand rooms of the main house, the extraordinary collection of classic cars in the museum, the formal gardens of the immediate surrounds and the wider woodland estate that lies beyond. Well worth a visit!

Guestbook

We were a group of family friends with grown up children all meeting up for the first time in years. due to weather we spent a majority of time in the house and have to say it didn't matter. We enjoyed the bulliards and played games, snuggled in front of the fire and all cooked a roast on the Sunday to celebrate xmas. there was everything we needed to do for the 9 of us, with still a saucepan to spare. the house was immaculate - thank you to the cleaners and thank you to Barefoot retreats. we would love to return to play outdoor games and most probably will. Coffee shop in town amazing. A 5 star holiday.
