North Norfolk Golf courses: Where should you tee off?

HUNSTANTON GOLF CLUB, HUNSTANTON

A championship links golf course located in old Hunstanton with breath-taking coastal views.  It was founded in 1891 and considered one of the best links courses in the country.  The course was designed by professional golfer James Braid and has hosted many prestigious events including the British and English Ladies Amateur Championships, five Brabazon Trophies and three English Amateur Championships. 

The course is known for its challenging layout, with undulating fairways, fast greens, and plenty of hazards.  The signature hole is the par-3 16th, known as ‘Ship’ which requires a precise tee shot over a ravine and onto a small green surrounded by the bunkers.

Hunstanton offers a range of facilities including a club house, pro shop, practice facilities and a restaurant.  The course is open to visitors (dogs welcome on leads) and is playable almost every day of the year due to the excellent drainage system.

ROYAL WEST NORFOLK GOLF CLUB, BRANCASTER

Founded in 1892 with stunning views of the North Sea and Saltmarsh, Brancaster Golf club is known for its challenging layout that rewards accuracy and shot-making skills.  Originally designed by Mr Holcombe Ingleby, the course has many of the original holes and was ranked by Golf World as number 17 in England and number 61 in the world in 2021.

During high tide the club is not accessible by car and some holes are affected by the tides however playing at Brancaster is delightful and relaxing.

The club offers a club house, pro shop, and practice facilities – it’s open to visitors with advanced booking due to its popularity and green fees vary depending on time of year and day.

FAKENHAM GOLF CLUB, FAKENHAM

Situated on the outskirts of the market town of Fakenham, this parkland golf course was founded in 1889 and i1s known for its pretty surroundings including mature trees, water hazards and gentle undulations.  A good course for golfers of all abilities – the signature hole is the par-4 10th which requires a tee shot over water and a second shot uphill to a green protected by bunkers.

Fakenham includes a clubhouse, pro shop and practice facilities – and it’s open to visitors all year.

KINGS LYNN GOLF CLUB, KINGS LYNN

A parkland course in West Norfolk set in a beautiful, mature landscape with tree-lined fairways, ponds and streams.  Founded in 1975 and first designed by the acclaimed Peter Alliss/Dave Thomas partnership, the par-72 course offers a challenging but fair test of golf with fast greens and well-placed bunkers.  

You’ll find a clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop and practice facilities and it’s open all year to visitors.

ROYAL CROMER GOLF CLUB, CROMER

A links golf course founded in 1888 and is considered one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the region, and one of only 66 ‘royal’ clubs in the world.  The course is situated on the cliffs overlooking the North Sea with stunning views.  The 18 holes offers challenge with strong coastal winds but is suitable for all abilities.

Advanced booking is recommended especially during peak times, there is a clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop and practice facilities.
