Once an old smuggling village, Thornham is now one of North Norfolk’s most sought-after coastal destinations, perfectly positioned within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape. Wide expanses of saltmarsh separate the village from the sea, creating spectacular scenery and a haven for walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers. Follow the footpaths across the marshes and sea defences to discover Thornham’s wonderfully peaceful beach, or join the Norfolk Coast Path to explore further along this beautiful stretch of coastline.

The village has an excellent reputation for food and drink, with plenty to enjoy close to home. The award-winning Orange Tree is a favourite for relaxed dining, while the historic Lifeboat Inn, once a popular haunt for smugglers, offers plenty of traditional character. Thornham Deli is perfect for coffee, breakfast or lunch, and The Chequers is another popular village spot.

On the edge of the village, Drove Orchards is well worth a visit and brings together an excellent collection of independent businesses. Pick up local produce from the farm shop, fresh seafood from Gurneys, enjoy Eric’s famous Fish & Chips or pizza, or stop for coffee, ice cream and something sweet. There is also a selection of independent boutiques and lifestyle stores to browse.

Thornham is ideally placed for discovering the wider North Norfolk coast. The vast sandy beaches of Brancaster and Old Hunstanton are within easy reach, while RSPB Titchwell Marsh and Holme Dunes Nature Reserve offer some of the area’s finest wildlife and birdwatching. The Georgian village of Burnham Market, Holkham Estate and Sandringham Estate are also just a short drive away.

For those wishing to leave the car behind, the coastal bus service stops in the village and provides an easy way to explore the villages, beaches and attractions dotted along this remarkable coastline.
